Travelling back from an antiques hunt one afternoon, we decided to stop in this lovely restaurant/pub for lunch one Friday lunchtime, and were delighted with the entire experience and would thoroughly recommend it to others.

We managed to park in the very small car park to the back, which was quite lucky, when you consider how popular this venue is. Taking a few minutes, we explored the beautifully presented outside eating areas, which are decorated with a mixture of vintage painted furniture, baroque frames and birdcages filled with flowers; a lovely and very quirky way to present the outside space. There is an additional (lower level) space with a fireplace and canopy, which is also a really pleasant place to sit and eat when the weather is good.

After exploring outside, we went inside and sat down in the tastefully presented restaurant/bar area. We were warmly welcomed and were quickly presented with menus and our drinks orders were swiftly taken.

The restaurant is a lovely mix of modern and traditional pieces, with an Inglenook fireplace and vintage inspired pieces scattered around, making it a lovely environment to just sit, relax and take in the atmosphere and attention to detail whilst waiting for your food. The establishment was also very clean and had a nice feel to it.

For starters we ordered the smoked salmon and whitebait, both freshly cooked/prepared and beautifully presented. Both starters were only £5.00 each, which we thought really well-priced.

For mains I had the sliced (hunk of) gammon, seared pineapple, with additional pineapple chutney, and chunky chips (£15.00), which was one of the most delicious (and generously portioned) meals I have had in a long time. My partner had a seared tuna steak from the specials menu (with a side order of sautéed potatoes).Both meals were delicious – and again, beautifully presented.

For desert I had the Mississippi mud cake, served in a Kilner jar and on a slate tray (another example of the fantastic presentation and attention to detail) and my partner had Crêpe Suzette; an old style fave. Both were lovely deserts, generously served and a decadent, delicious way to finish our meal.

Three courses each, including accompanying drinks, came to £60, which we thought represented excellent value for money.

The venue is very popular, so booking would be advisable.
