Review: Miskin Arms, Miskin

Miskin village

The Miskins Arms underwent a thorough renovation during 2016, transforming it from a cosy and traditional pub to a modern and welcoming bar and resturant which is gathering (deservedly) rave reviews for it's food and service. Being only a short drive from us at Tŵr Cymru Culture Towers in Llantrisant, Rhondda Cynon Taf, we have visited this restaurant a number of times, for lunch, dinner, family birthday meals and Sunday lunch, and every visit has been very positive.

Spacious, free car parking is to the rear, with the thoughtful touch of larger spaces available for those with disabilities or with children.

The restaurant offers a range of two set-course menus (which change daily depending on what is good at the markets), together with ordering from the assorted blackboards for items by weight (such as steaks and fish). We typically make use of the two courses deal.

Starters of particular mention are the hake goujons with tartare sauce (which is deliciously creamy) and mackeral escabeche. My parents have also heartily enjoyed the vegetable soup.

The choice of mains, from the set menu, is also excellent. We have enjoyed several dishes, swordfish steaks (with excellent chip shop style chips), steak and mushroom pie and the cod in particuar.

If you are looking for something more special (such as the amazing Scottish Beef and Welsh Lamb), a walk to the meat and fish counter is fascinating, with real care and attention paid to how the food is presented, and all beautifully clean.

In the summer, you can make use of the pleasant terrace area which overlooks the car park and the Afon Elai river beyond, perfect for sipping a glass of rosé, with the Miskin Arms having an extensive wine list, which will suit all taste and busgets.
